The mission of the CAC Clothes Closet is:

* To provide FREE clothing and household items TO PEOPLE in the Northfield area in cases of emergency.

* To provide discounted clothing and household items to income-eligible residents of the Northfield School District certified to use CAC programs.

* To provide low-cost clothing and household items, generating revenue that may support overall CAC programming, through retail sales to the general public.

Clothes Closet

The Northfield CAC operates a retail thrift store. Donations of gently used clothing, shoes, linens and small houseware items are generously donated year round. The thrift store is located in the Northfield Community Resource Center and is open to the general public.

Shopping at the Clothes Closet

Jane and customerThe general public is always welcome to shop at the Clothes Closet, and by doing so, support the work of the CAC. The “thrifty” clothing purchases people make at the Clothes Closet contribute to the operation of other Northfield CAC programs. Profit from sales at the Clothes Closet go back to the CAC, providing general operating support of emergency and financial assistance of many kinds.

Clothes Closet Volunteers

VolunteersSimilar to much larger organizations such as Good Will and the Salvation Army, the Clothes Closet effort relies on the support of the community through donations of gently-used clothing. It also relies on volunteers who help sort and display items for resale. More than 1,400 hours of volunteer support helped the Clothes Closet in 2002.

Donating to the Clothes Closet

One of the most challenging aspects of this kind of program is management of volume. There are always more donations, of varying quality, than sales can ever handle. For this reason, the Clothes Closet staff can only accept donations from 9:00 am to noon, Wednesday through Saturday.

You will find good quality items at the Clothes Closet at an inexpensive price. We invite the public to take advantage of the opportunity to express community support through purchases from the Clothes Closet.

The Clothes Closet accepts donations of clean, gently worn, in season clothing, shoes, small household items and toys, however, we need your help.

* Please make sure the donations you bring to the Clothes Closet are freshly washed or cleaned and are in excellent condition.
* Please bring clothing donations that are appropriate for the current season.
* Please do not bring more than five bags or boxes of donations at one time.
* Please do not bring left over garage sale items.
* lease do not ever leave donations outside of the building.

Clothing Vouchers

Certificates are given out to resolve clothing and houseware emergencies for people in need; need is determined by CAC staff on a case by case basis.
