PLEASE HELP SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FOOD SHELF
For 26 years, the Northfield Community Action Center has participated in the Minnesota FoodShare Campaign to raise hunger awareness a
nd financial support for our Food Shelf program. The Northfield CAC Food Shelf is currently serving a record number of families and your donations are more important than ever. About 900 individuals from 330 households are receiving food at the CAC Food Shelf each month. In 2007, community donations made it possible for the CAC to distribute 322,000 pounds of food.
All cash and food donations made to the CAC during March stay in Northfield. CAC 
uses them to serve income-eligible, school district residents through the Emergency and Sustaining Food Shelf programs. In addition, the donations earn the Food Shelf a share of the undesignated corporate donations made at the state level and grant money from the Feinstein Foundation. This is the time to make contributions go further than they can any other time of the year.
The Northfield CAC is very grateful for the amazing support of the Northfield community in 
helping to fight hunger in Northfield. Please join us again during the month of March and help us reach this year’s goal of 90,000 $$/lb. by making a contribution. Checks may be sent to the Northfield CAC Food Shelf, 1651 Jefferson Parkway, HS200, Northfield, MN 55057. Food items can be placed in collection bins at Cub Foods or Econo Foods.
STRETCH YOUR DONATION BY GIVING CASH
The CAC has the ability to s-t-r-e-t-c-h donated dollars about
four times further by purchasing food items through the
Second Harvest Food Bank.
On average, the CAC spends about
.25 cents per pound of food,
including meat, fruit,
and vegetables.

During the March FoodShare drive, group donations may be delivered to the CAC Food Shelf located in the Northfield Community Resource Center, 1651 Jefferson Parkway. The entrance to the Food Shelf is on the east side of the two-story building just off of Raider Drive.
Donation hours: Tuesday 9:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday 9:00 - 12:00 noon
Thursday 12:00 - 7:00 p.m.

The Campaign for Children Committee is a group comproised of women from the Northfield United Methodist Church. Operation Backpack is a back-to-school program that furnishes new backpacks and school supplies for all children entering kindergarten through Grade 12 whose households are certified to use the program services of the Northfield Community Action Center. These women seek out help in the form of monetary donatioons and supplies from a wide spectrum of individuals, business and churches throughout Northfield. Sending children off to school with a shiney new backpack filled with all the supplies they are expected to bring has an impact on the success a child has in and out of the classroom.
The committee accepts monetary donations. Checks may be sent to Operation Backpack in care of Jean DeLong at 1002 S Spring Street, Northfield, MN 55057.

More rain than shine in the Econofoods lot as the teams of mechanics huddled under tents and swarmed around cars testing for fuel efficiency, performance and safety Saturday.
NAPA Auto Parts, Convenience Car Care, Northfield Auto Care, Valley Autohaus and Witt Bros. Service, Inc. worked together checking over 85 components of the car’s system and then reported to the owner.
Vehicle inspections were free, but the guys were doing it asking for a cash donation or non-perishable food item for the CAC Food Shelf.
Thanks to the hearty souls working on Saturday in the cold rain for food for the hungry in our community! It was a kind and generous service to the whole community.

The March 11 Bizarre Bazaar, first ever for the CAC, was a smashing success. Everyone attending had an enjoyable evening, in particular the Style Show of Clothes Closet finds and personal favorites modeled by familiar friends!
The vintage clothing, odd treasures and donations of all sorts made the auction interesting, if not bizarre.
The most gratifying part of the auction, however, was the sale of enough food to feed a family of four for a week. Contributions were made to the MN FoodShare campaign, an annual March event. A couple people started, and then Ed Kuhlman, auctioneer extraordinaire, could hardly keep up with the bidders! Twenty-eight people helped us ensure people don’t go hungry in Northfield.
